A breastfeeding mother should consume 1800-2000 calories a day from healthy and nutritious food to cope up with the energy lost during breastfeeding. Never depend on junk foods to compensate the calories. Breastfeeding also helps to lose weight, but the result may not be visible in the short run.

Unlike other people, new moms should not go for quick weight loss as it can cause a lot of health risks for themselves as well as their babies in the long run. If you had only normal weight gain during pregnancy and had a normal delivery, you can easily lose weight and get back in shape with normal exercises along with healthy eating. Again, this is possible only within eight to twelve months after delivery. It may sound like a slow and long process but that’s the only way for a healthy weight loss after pregnancy.
